Birdsong brights up my morning—

Birdsong

As My Body rests,

Birdsong brights up My Morning—

Morning turns to Day,

My Surroundings bloom and spring—

The Night vanishes behind Me.

This is my first sucessful tanka-poem, entitled Birdsong.

For those who don’t know tanka is a genre of japanese poetry.

The rules are the following.

• The poem must have five lines

• First and third line must have 5 syllables

• The remaining lines must have 7 syllables

Writing poems following such strict rules is a fun challenge for sure. Hope you enjoy:)
