Thank you for the kind words Wil! It means a lot coming from such a talented poet as yourself!
To answer your question - it is always different. Sometimes it just comes to me naturally, other times it is related to some things that might have happened recently (or that I've observed), and other times I actively seek it out, taking phrases from other text and altering them until something new presents itself from it.
This particular poem I wrote an evening, after dinner, where I had gone for a walk, bringing a long a notebook. I stopped by a bench to do some writing, then I accidentally glanced toward a hill in the distance and marveled at all the light from the houses. I wrote the poem off of that.
Thank you Jas! Very kind of you! The reception to this poem has succeeded all my expecations. I initially hesitated to share it, unsure if people would connect with it.
Love that, Rasmus. It feels very much like the sort of thing you'd find in a Stephen King novel. (Although honestly, it reminded me of the end of the first season of True Detective.)
Simply elegant.
How do you go about writing when you set out to write something? Do you have a clear intention? Start with a source material? etc.
I get the sense that this is coming from a very particular and intentioned place.

Thank you for reading and commenting:)
I’m glad you shared it in the end! It’s a very beautiful piece :)
Everything around us is a poem, waiting to be written. Beautiful haunting words, Rasmus.
Very true Rea. Thank you for your kind words! I
"It’s all we’ve got.
It’s not a lot,
but —
perhaps it’s enough..."

Thank you James! I am glad you enjoyed that line and I am flattered by the comparison.
Even if I must (a bit shamefully) admit that I've never seen True Detective nor ever read a Stephen King novel.
Thanks for reading!
Very nice Rasmus. I'm scrolling through trying to catch up on posts but this one stopped me in my tracks.
Hey Josh! Thank you very much! I am glad you enjoyed my poem! And happy continuation with the catching up:)
